2014 Sept: British Ambassador to Portugal at Grémio Literario lunch
Newly appointed British Ambassador to Portugal Mrs Kirsty Hayes was guest of honour and speaker at the Royal British Club's lunch at Lisbon's prestigious Grémio Literário Club.
Businessmen and retired members and guests of the community attended the lunch to welcome the Ambassador who is also President of the Royal British Club.
In her address Mrs Hayes spoke candidly on the subject of the Scottish referendum and current strategy towards the Middle East. She also mentioned her various postings, the most recent being as a member of the FCO's International Desk dealing with issues such as war crimes and sanctions, and spoke briefly about the UK's current attitude to the EU. She is delighted to have this posting in Portugal. Her husband is also in the FCO. She has a young family and has a passion for horses - she even brought her two horses with her to Portugal.
Club Chairman Philip Portal welcomed her wholeheartedly to the Club. And club member and author Mohammad Yamin Iraqi, pictured above, presented Mrs Hayes with his book of poems The Rainbow of Dreams.
